As the author actually is describing “center weighted” and “spot” metering backwards, and would also explain why the subject in the center weighted picture did not change much.
“Spot” metering DOES meter on your FOCUS point.
“Center Weighted” meters on the CENTER of your view finder. Remember, she mentioned she focused on the white card and black card using center weighted metering, but the camera was metering the center of the picture which is the dress on the doll, so you should expect similar results. Had she used “spot” metering, the results would have varied almost or more than her first test.

I should also like to know more about which lens to use for compression/ vs. wide angel and depth of field for wedding pictures. Is this an appropriate question here?

I second that. I have a renewal of vows today and I wanted to refresh and get helful hints and suggestions also. We can be book smart all we want, but it truly does not make sense until we get out there and practice. We are always students in the photography world and we can all be helpful to each other with what he have learned from our adventures. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.

But then I started using Center weighted and got more consistent shot without really knowing why. This article explained it for me 🙂 thanks.

Am actually going to shoot at a wedding in June when a couple of friends are getting married and they learned that I just bought the 5DMkIII and was wondering if I could take as much pictures as possible on people there so I assume and hope they do not count on me to shoot the actual ceremony as I have no experience in that area.

Anyway I love these kind of articles that explains why something is suited better then something else instead of “use this, it’s best” kind of advices. So thanks again
